Title: America's Got Talent 2010
Description: Michael Grimm

RockinBB - June 2, 2010 06:33 PM (GMT)
Check this guy out....he blew it out of the box last night. Michael is 30 years old which, unfortunately is too old for AI but, I must say he is 100% better than all of the Idol contestants from this year. The judges were quite impressed and so was I. Will definitely be keeping an eye on him.

I was in the other room and "heard" him.....came running to put a face to that voice. OHHHH he was good.

I heard him. He was amazing. Just looking at him you wouldn've thought that he had a voice. It's true that you can't judge a book by it's cover.

He was good, wasn't he. I can't wait to hear him sing again. There was just something refreshingly honest and soulful in his performance. :thud:

Was just stopping in to post Michael's link and you already have it! I happened to turn on AGT the last 10 minutes and saw his name on the screen before he started to sing and couldn't believe it! We saw Michael open for Heart last year at Mountain Winery and loved him then. He performed a versatile set of songs, but we were blown away by "Try a Little Tenderness"! His version of Ray Charles' "You Don't Know Me" is amazing. His voice reminds me a little bit of Michael Bolton's blue eyed soul sound. Whether he wins this competition or not, people now know who he is. The You Tube link had 81,000 views in only 2 days and now has 179,00 views as of Friday night! Here's his My Space link to hear more of his music.

You're so right about Joe Cocker, especially in "A Little Help from My Friends"! I didn't know who Marc Broussard was so I gave a listen at You Tube. He's great!

I must admit that I didn't know who Marc Broussard was either until I heard Elliott mention him somewhere in a interview about 2 years ago. Since then I have been a fan of his too and have bought several of his albums. On Elliott's last tour he did a cover of one of Broussard's songs-"Real Good Thing".

It will be great to get your take on him - whether he has the star power it takes to headline a show in Las Vegas. He certainly has the voice!

Let me start off by saying that Michael was amazing last night. It was a very small venue about 150 people and he was introduced by Bill Medley (Righteous Bros.) who is his mentor. Michael performed for 1 1/2 hours and sang a lot of his own songs, about 4 cover songs, 2 songs with Bill and ended the show singing, "You Don't Know Me" with McKenna Medley (Bill's Daughter). He definitely has the star power for Vegas, his is quite comfortable on stage performing. But, he needs to show a little more personality which I'm sure will come in time.

He did a Meet & Greet after the show taking his time with everyone. I found him to be a soft spoken, semi-shy, humble and very appreciative young man. The pictures I took of Michael performing didn't turn out because, no flash was allowed. But, I did have my picture taken with him and also Bill Medley. What a thrill that was for me, he is such a music icon. I think the picture of Bill and I turned out pretty good. My Daughter said to me this morning that, "we make a cute couple".....had to laugh at that one.

All and all I had a great time and look forward to seeing Michael again and hope he wins AGT. But, if he doesn't he'll do just fine because of all the notable people in the industry backing him.

Oh, almost forgot, Michael has a CD out called, "Leave Your Hat On" which you can purchase from his website. I picked up a copy last night and it is excellent.

This Youtube link is from a performance a month ago. This is what I got to see and hear last night.

Bill Medley sang too? how did he sound? The Righteous Brothers were one of my all-time favorite duos. I didn't realize Medley was Michael Grimm's mentor - makes sense though. What a great night you had. and your pictures turned out great! I'm amazed at how much Michael looks like a close friend of mine, who happens to also be a musician. Thanks for the recap, Rockin! I hope Michael comes to Minneapolis sometime - I'd definitely go see him.

Bill sounded great. He & Michael sang "You Got Me Hummin'" and "Hold On I'm Comin'". The CD that I purchased has these 2 tracks on it with Bill & Michael singing.

He's amazing on TV and in person but, I would have to say in person because you get to see more of his personality and of course you get to hear the entire song.....not just 2 minutes of it.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo happy that Michael won!!!!!!! Loved seeing him so animated at the end of the show like "I REALLY won this?" He really deserved it!!!

Who the heck picked Jewel to perform with him???? I thought it should have been Bill Medley. What a duet that would have been!!

Congratulations to Michael!!!!

(Haven't been around in awhile and I see that Rockin BB got to see him in concert and meet him too! How great!!)

America's Got Talent' winner Michael Grimm signs with Epic Records
by Emily Exton
Categories: Music, Music Biz, Soul
You know what they say: If you build it, they will come. So naturally, in today’s reality show-obsessed world, if you win a televised talent competition…you’re likely to get a record deal. In a press release, Epic Records announced the signing of recent America’s Got Talent winner Michael Grimm. The self-described “blue-eyed soul singer” impressed the judges and voters at home with his skillful guitar playing and smooth voice week after week as he covered soul classics like “You Don’t Know Me,” “Let’s Stay Together,” and “When a Man Loves a Woman.” Grimm’s signing follows the path of last season’s AGT winner, country singer Kevin Skinner, who released his debut album Long Ride last September.

In a recent interview, Grimm told EW that he hoped winning America’s Got Talent would allow him to “cut the album [he's] been wanting to cut,” and give him the exposure and promotion necessary to perform beyond his Las Vegas home. “I know the genre, I know the route I want to go on this album, what it looks like, and smells like, and sounds like,” Grimm said. According to Epic, Grimm plans to release a solo album in March 2011.

Can't wait to hear it!

Thanks for letting us know Rockin.

MOMster - March 25, 2011 12:15 AM (GMT)
A friend of mine and I were able to go to the America's Got Talent tryouts that were held at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis yesterday and today.

When we first arrived there were several people outside waiting for the judges to arrive, and as soon as we walked up we saw Piers Morgan get out of his limo - he walked up to the door and I held out my hand to give him a high five and he grabbed my hand and held it :) I was too tongue-tied to say anything. He was supposed to be at the tryouts yesterday, but his plane wouldn't land because of the dang snow we got here! So he had to go back, then apparently flew in again this morning.

Out of maybe 30 acts that we saw, only about a half dozen or so were sent through to Vegas! One that stood out was a group called "Silhouette" (I think that was the name - there was no program with names of the acts.) Silhouette was a group of young kids who did ballet behind a screen, and the images they created were beautiful - the judges loved them. They said if they win the million dollars it will go to some children's charity. Another act I liked was a group of gymnasts from Chicago - they made a mistake and a young girl was slammed to the floor - kind of scary - but they picked up where they left off and they went through to Vegas. I think their name was "Chicago C.U.T." - at least that's what their t-shirts said. There was a 15yo singer who went thru named Collin McColey (or something like that) - he played piano and had a very nice voice - kinda like Greyson Chance, if you know who he is. Also going thru to Vegas was an outrageous comedian named "Mrs. Smith" who was pretty entertaining - Howie kept asking if she was a man, and she pretended to be insulted (pretty sure she was a man.)

My sons have a friend who is trying out tonight - he's a singer, guitar-player - nice voice, but it's tough to get thru, so I'm crossing my fingers.

We weren't supposed to take pictures, but ... :)

Some ladies wanted me to take their picture ...

Nick Canon. The girl to his left with the feather wings was a "burlesque with a twist" performer named "The Fabulous Miss Cherries Jubilee" who said she believes "disturbing can be interesting" - the feathers are pierced right into her back!! She did not get sent through to Vegas.
