My big fat remodel has been in progress for several months now. And I blame it all on the "low-flow" water conserving toilets that I got a $175 rebate from my local water district to install.
I couldn't just install the toilets and move on......no!!! I took the opportunity to remove flooring, mirrors, lights, vanities, you name it.
So I've developed some product preferences, and would love to hear from others.
My plumber told me to stick with Delta faucets, unless I was going super high-end because they have a life-time guarantee, and are now lead-free. (I love Grohe, but don't need it right now.)
I chose a Toto Eco-Drake over a Kohler toilet after reading horrible reviews on the Kohler. I realized a friend of mine has a Kohler, and the low-flow models are wimpy. (Go with the color bisque. The white is way too industrial.)
Things I really love that are nearly invisible to most, are a Panasonic 80 CFM fan in the master bath that is so quiet you can forget that it's operating.
I'd love to hear stories from others who have gone through major remodel projects inside and out. I have a lot of other projects to still knock off my list.
Has anyone every messed around with any of the ducts in their home? Seriously thinking of moving the dryer vent.
I am gonna love this thread..geting ready for a kitchen remodel...but then I watch Holmes on Homes and see how many things can go wrong...it kinda freaks me out.
We had hardwood floors installed a couple of years ago...3 times the same company tried to do it right..we hired a really expensive flooring inspector who told us there are not enough nails and now the floor is coming up...finally we got our money back..but now have to replace the floor...
^^ A work colleague of mine is going through a kitchen remodel. They installed LED recessed lighting. It's awesome!! No CFL's, no mercury, and the color output is a warm white at 2700k.
(That's my next room too, btw!!!) The flooring is already up, and the gas line is in!!

That's a bummer! My brother and SIL installed hardwood in their living and dining room that warped. Turned out that they had water underneath the foundation from a leaking storm drain behind their property.
Not a fun experience. Plus my SIL didn't like the huge difference in color from light to dark wood, and they picked out all the lighter planks they didn't like ahead of time. They picked the hardwood from a small sample piece that wasn't very accurate.
