Title: Don't Text Me In

Sk8888 - March 15, 2010 11:49 PM (GMT)
I've noticed how fast people are with their thumbs while texting. It simply amazes me!

I still hunt and peck for the letters, and find myself writing texts I doubt I would ever speak out loud.

I've sometimes wondered what Elliott's tweets are trying to convey. But he's always been great with verbal communication.

My fear is that the generation that began with texting, may actually begin to verbally communicate like they text. R U 2 ??

Most phones have a "Word" or T9 setting that makes texting easier. I text a lot just because it's easy. Texting could be a life saving tool during an emergency. I think everyone should know how to write/send a text at least a little bit.

Though texting is way cheaper than calling (well, at least here in the Philippines), I still prefer calling. But I gotta say it's more convenient to text, especially if you're sending a long message.

Did you know that you can send text messages to cell phones via email? I rarely send people texts from my cell phone - I almost always do it from my computer/email. I like it because I can write a lot more and it goes so much faster for me.

You just have to know which service provider a person uses, and use the cell email address for that provider...
* AT&T – cellnumber@txt.att.net
* Verizon – cellnumber@vtext.com
* T-Mobile – cellnumber@tmomail.net
* Sprint PCS - cellnumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com
* Virgin Mobile – cellnumber@vmobl.com
* US Cellular – cellnumber@email.uscc.net
* Nextel - cellnumber@messaging.nextel.com
* Boost - cellnumber@myboostmobile.com
* Alltel – cellnumber@message.alltel.com

I didn't know that, MOMster! Thanks!

Regarding texting, I love to text, but I absolutely refuse to do any of the abbreviations. I'll type LOL, and :), but I won't use "R" for "are" or any of those. I think I love writing and literature too much to replace the words with non-words. I have a QWERTY keyboard on my phone, and I type pretty fast, so I can text pretty fast, so it's not time-consuming for me.

I think texting is a great way of communicating. It's very freeing.

My phone has a touch screen on the front, but also opens and there's a Qwerty keyboard so texting is easy for me too! I also don't use any abbreviations besides LOL either. I'd rather spell it out.

I didn't know that. Great info to have. Thanks!!

You're welcome! I always have access to email, so it works great for me to get replies back to my email address and not my cell phone.

If you decide to use this way of texting, report back and let us know how you like or don't like it.
