'can't make you love me' is a mediocre song that is more tolerable with elliott's vocal talents but omg, 'without you' is amazing! it's a gorgeous song and it's got tons of emotion behind the hook. the piano part of 'without you' reminds me of a brian mcknight track. it's so smooth. elliott sounds amazing on this song. i think it could've been an awesome addition to 'fight for love'. great job elliott!! it's such a gorgeous song! i've been playing it on repeat straight for hours and it gets better after every listen!

The same may be true of Can't Make You Love Me.

They're both great, but I can't believe "Without You" didn't make the FFL cut!!!

musicmovesme - December 6, 2009 05:26 AM (GMT)
Even though the sound isn't perfect and wish we could hear in high def quality (minus the whisking beater sound), "Without You" is still way awesome both the song and his vocals. It's killing me. :lotsolove:

The boy can just d...m sing!! :rocker:

'Without You' seems to be the favourite but am really feeling 'Cant Make You Love Me' too, is a grower! Does anyone else feel that a lot of Elliott's Stargate produced tracks do end up sounding a little too similar alot of the time and annoyingly Ne-Yo-esque. But lets be honest the tracks are never bad they are amazing and I know Stargate has a recognizable style but would be good for Elliott to get some more producers that can stretch his voice in the future. But lets hope we get to hear more of the leftover tracks from FFL!

jogr - December 7, 2009 02:33 AM (GMT)
I found both songs. Without You is AMAZING. Can't stop listening to it.
I listened to the other song just once . I'm not crazy about it. But maybe I need to give it another chance.

xxmillexx - December 7, 2009 02:38 AM (GMT)
Without You made me cry the first few times I heard it. I love the emotion he puts in the song...it makes me feel something while listening to it. He's just amazing.

I feel the same way...
Can't Make You Love Me has surprisingly grown on me!!! :awe:

It's really hard to believe those amazing tracks are "demos"

There is also a version by Tay Jackson at youtube for comparison - I like it.

planegirl - December 7, 2009 07:04 PM (GMT)
I can't believe that Elliott didn't put this on FFL and release it as a single.
In my opinion, this song has "hit" written all over it. Another "Wait For You" if you ask me. Or bigger.

musicmovesme - December 7, 2009 08:07 PM (GMT)
It's still pretty as a song but not as good a key--too high. Also the arrangement detracts by sounding surgical techno pop circa 2009. Elliott's music (maybe I'm thanking God it was a demo) was pared down to the point where it could have been done the same beat, guitar, piano sound in 1980 or 1990 or 2000 with couples slow dancing to it and I bet will still be appreciated by romantics in another 20 years. No deliberately calculated phrasing to induce faux emotion, no whining or oversinging, no over accenting. His sincere straightforward vocal makes the words become all real and alive. This makes what could have been a cheesy or desperate song turn into a heartbreaker. Compared to such a magical combination most of this year's laughable vocorder assisted pop and faked southern country songs seem like cheap whores that don't satisfy. They have a carefully manipulated sound posing as music.

OMG...I LOVE Without You!! I think it would be an awesome radio hit, but I don' think it would be a good song for Elliott to perform live. He has awesome vocals live & I honestly think singing this song on a regular basis would tear his vocal cords up, especially as he freely admits to not taking care of his voice like he should. Damned if I don't love this song & wish it had been a single tho....

Can't Make You Love Me is another great tune! I wish Elliott could have a double CD release that includes ALL of the trax he has recorded in studio. How fricken fantabulous THAT would be! I agree with Elliott, pretty crappy that he doesn't even have a copy of trax with HIS vocals on it that are getting leaked. Not cool.

clemens22 - December 8, 2009 08:28 AM (GMT)
wow, how did "Without You" not make the cut lol, wow his voice just moves you like nothing else. I wish I could just listen to new music over and over from this soulful guy. GET IN THE STUDIO AND KEEP GIVING US THESE SMASH HITS.. I don't care if they don't make the CD's please have them released :) I gotta hear new Elliott stuff soon and I am glad this is a start with these 2 songs

Nickyey09 - December 8, 2009 02:08 PM (GMT)
Although I'm loving both of these songs I really hate the fact that his music keeps getting leaked. "Without You" is so beautiful. His vocals on this one just takes me to another place (I feel like I'm floating on a cloud or something...lol). He just moves me. When you can make someone feel something through your voice and delivery that alone is a blessing. "Can't Make You Love Me" is also special and I can't listen to one of these songs without listening to the other. I know that it was hard to choose songs for this album because everything I have heard is a WINNER. Elliott you have gotten us spoiled. Keep doing what you were put here to do. For me, you bring a calmness to this otherwise hectic world.

:awe:
the songs are awesome!
that's the voice we always love!!
heart just melt when hearing the songs~
BTW, can anyone send me the lyrics?~

PoorMe - December 8, 2009 10:50 PM (GMT)
Well I guess maybe I'm going to have to disagree with some of you about the songs. It's always great to hear Elliott sing new music, and he sounds spectacular singing these songs. I just don't think that these songs are anywhere near as good as a vast majority of the stuff on the FFL album, including the bonus tracks. I might trade out Without You for maybe one or two of the bonus songs, but that's about it.

ElliottisTrueBlue - December 9, 2009 04:55 AM (GMT)
Still need to listen to them both...man, he really does need to release a b-sides/demos collection for all these nonalbum songs!

P.S. You can rip the mp3s from youtube with this site

musicmovesme - December 9, 2009 06:21 PM (GMT)
Can't Make You Love Me is pretty good too. It would fit more into modern radio. It has that patented NeYo-ish sound. He did a good job with the vocal as he always does. Don't know if Without You could make it as a single in today's crappy market. I personally like the song better than most of the others and think it's really beautiful partly because of the simple soulful production on the music. Really great harmonies and a stellar bridge too. I'm a sucker for quiet piano embellishment, electric guitar and bossa/merengue beat. Nothing about Elliott's version sounds like it was planned for right now r&b radio (like Taj Jackson's version which is not even in the same league after listening to it a few times). It's like a happy accident of fate he even recorded a demo of the song. With a nice cleaned up/tweaked version....oh it would sound so great! Hope he can release it as a bonus or on an album now.

gztdove - December 10, 2009 02:47 AM (GMT)
I'd say that the first time when I heard these two songs, me and my friends felt like crying-- not only because of the soulful voice and his emotion, but also because of his devotion to music, and everything he did to pursue his dream of music. Elliott definitely gave it all in these two songs and exerted all his strength in these songs, especially in the song 'without you'.

LilRedDevilLizzy - December 10, 2009 09:13 PM (GMT)
Cool. Have to get a listen.

thanks for the link - I just played Lachey's version and then Elliott's version for my daughter - she said "Elliott's just has so much more depth."

no kidding! :elliottcap:

There's no comparison between the two. The richness of Elliott's voice together with the emotion in it blows Lachey's version out of the water.

haha thats awesome couldn't agree more, u've taught your daughter well! hehe. Nick's voice is so forced and breathy! No soul whatsoever.

definitely well summed up midge. Don't know why they bothered giving this song to Nick - he is well out of his depth. Let's hope for his sake its just a demo and Elliott keeps it for a future project!!!

MY IDOL ELLIOTT - January 2, 2010 07:50 PM (GMT)
HI Yall, JB thank you very much for Nick Lachey's version of Elliott's "Without You"!!!! Its great to here othere peoples versions of these Elliott unreleased tracks. We all simply know there is no one in the world that can sing anything and I YAMIN it anything like our Funky White Boy Elliott!!!! There is truly no other voice like Elliott's!!!!! There may be Elliott wannabees and people that try to sing like Elliott, but they can't. Justin Bieber tries to sing "Wait For You" on Youtube, but no Cigar!!!! Everybody wake up and smell the coffee burning Elliott is the REAL AUTHENTIC American Idol & will be for life!!!! Deep down in my heart Elliott's an ICON!!!!

I Love Elliott - January 3, 2010 03:55 AM (GMT)
I think I might have liked Nick's version, if I had not heard Elliott's first.

Don't think "anyone" would disagree that there is just NO conpairison.

I was so hoping that someday Elliott would realease it.

Elliott's version of the song just melts me! :awe:

Nickyey09 - January 3, 2010 02:08 PM (GMT)
Nick Lachey??? I know who he is.....lol but I'm just in awe that he is singing "Without You". When I first heard Elliott singing this song I was floating on the clouds somewhere. His voice just takes you places. IDK now if I'm ready to hear Nick attempt this one. Elliott has done alot of cover songs and in most cases he has sang the songs he's covered better than the original artist IMHO. MY IDOL ELLIOTT I definitely agree that Elliott is an ICON as well.

hansong82 - January 4, 2010 05:28 AM (GMT)
i heard nick lachey's version recently and i know i'm biased but it doesn't even come close to equaling elliott's demo version in terms of vocal ability or passion. elliott's so awesome lol

Nickyey09 - January 5, 2010 07:52 PM (GMT)
Ok. I finally worked up the nerve to listen to Nick's version of Without You. I must admit it is not as bad as I expected it to be although it is very emotionless. While he is singing I can still hear Elliott's version in the background so I guess that is not a good thing....lol. I will give him an "A" for effort though.
