wee_moggie - October 22, 2009 04:19 AM (GMT)
This thread is all about the acclaimed show, Masterpiece Contemporary, and its new host, David Tennant. David Tennant is a British actor who portrayed The Doctor in Doctor Who for three years. He is a fantastic actor and we are greatly looking forward to this new step in his career.

The first story for Masterpiece Contemporary is called "Endgame," about the negotiations that led to the end of apartheid in South Africa. Jonny Lee Miller and William Hurt star.

Masterpiece Contemporary begins on Sunday, October 25. Here on the West Coast, it is on Channel 9, KQED, at 10pm.

To get to know David, watch these: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/contem...ry/tennant.html

I can't wait!

Wow, what a powerful story that was ("End Game"). Who would have thought that a British businessman could bring about the end of apartheid?? He was so courageous; he could have easily lost his life at the hands of the government or an angry mob. I had a hard time watching this because of the hand-held camera work (I'm subject to vertigo and I found myself getting a little dizzy), but I am so glad I hung in. The acting was superb - especially William Hurt.

Some "Who" connections as well in addition to the obvious David Tennant. Derek Jacobi, who played Michael Young's boss, played the "Professor" who morphed into John Simm's "Master" in "Utopia". Also, Chiwetel Ejiofor, who played Mbeki, was long rumored [and up until the actual announcement of Matt Smith] to become the 11th Doctor.

Some wonderful fan put up a youtube video of David Tennant's hosting bits. It's here:

I loved "Endgame." I was already a fan of all the main actors, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, who I've seen in a BBC drama, and also in the cute movie "Kinky Boots." I didn't know that Derek Jacobi was in it, who I am also a huge fan of!

I LOVE "Place of Execution!" I can't wait for next Sunday. Lee Ingleby is another actor that I was already a fan of. He was in the great movie "Master and Commander." Also, the actor who plays the D.I. in his older years is someone who I've seen before, but I can't place him. I'll have to look him up.

They're really pointing towards the possibility that he doctored the evidence, aren't they? We'll have to see what actually happens.

Oh, and I just found out that Douglas Henshall will be in "Collision!" I became a fan of his in "Primeval," and am furious (along with most other fans) that he is not on the show anymore.

I love that all these actors that I love are in the Contemporary series.

I am really enjoying this season. Made even more special by DT's excellent introductions! :)

I loved "Endgame" AND "Place of Execution".

I finished watching PoE online today. And though I anticipated some plot twists, like maybe Bennett did tamper with the photos, I was still a bit surprised by a few things which made me enjoy the end even more. I thought Juliet Stevenson was wonderful! I've seen her in other films, she's such a good actress. (a bit strange but true: I found out that she is a graduate of RADA. It's strange that almost all the actors/actresses I admire have gone to RADA, and I always learn this little tidbit after I start liking them. )

I also thought Lee Ingleby and Greg Wise (what a handsome devil he is in this one, btw) were great in it. I've enjoyed a few other things they've been in. Coincidentally, Ingleby and Wise have worked in the past with one of the stars of next week's "Collision", Paul McGann (who's my absolute fave, as y'all may already know ;)).

Here with Ingleby in "Nature Boy" (2000). They played father & son.

Needless to say, I am really excited to watch "Collision" this Sunday! Apart from McGann, I'm looking forward to watching Douglas Henshall who's another good Scottish actor (yes, he was great in Primeaval, shame it was cancelled but isn't it coming back in 2011?) and Dean Lennox Kelly and Lucy Griffiths (who were in Robin Hood).
Watch THIS SHORT VIDEO where they are all interviewed about "Collision".
