Title: Computer help needed(internet explorer issue)

EYaminCDaughtryfan - September 1, 2009 07:40 PM (GMT)
I hope this is the right place to post this. When my mom opens IE on her laptop, the font is tiny. She's checked all of the settings(text size is set on medium but everything still looks small.) This has happened all of a sudden. Does anyone know how to fix it? I'm sure it is something simple but I can't remember how to fix it!!! The icons & everything else are normal. Will someone please help with this?

Hmm, it's strange that it would happen suddenly. Check out this link to see how to override font size set by the web page:

She thinks she hit a button that caused it to be that way but she isn't sure which one she hit.

You can change the size of your font, maybe unexpectedly, by the scroll mouse. Hold it down and then scroll up or down to make it larger or smaller. I think this could have been easily done accidentally.

I thought of this initially but I've thought that you have to hold the CTRL key down while using the scroll (center wheel) wheel to change the size. I've only used it on rare occasions so I'm not aware if it happens all of the time, but the times that I have used it, it reverts back to the original size when I close IE and reopen.

If none of the above work, you can have her try this: Go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced Options, Restore Default Advanced Settings.

Actually mine used to do it w/out the cntrl key. (no longer w/ my new software) Just holding down the scroll and roll. And it would stay like that after closing and reopening too. It must have to do w/ mouse, and/or software and/or browser installed. And can probably be changed too in control panel / mouse.

EYaminCDaughtryfan hasn't reported on whether the problem has been solved, but in case this happens to anyone in the future, I think I happened onto the answer by accidently hitting the wrong button myself.

If you look at the bottom-right corner of Internet Explorer 7 (not sure about other versions), there is a little icon of a magnifying glass with 100% besides it. If you click on the little down arrow next to it and then click on one of the numbers that appears, the size of your print will change to larger or smaller depending on which one you hit.

Strange that I never noticed it there all along.
