Title: Do you like the music of The Doors?

Elliottisastar - August 18, 2009 07:11 PM (GMT)
If you like The Doors, you'll love this tribute band called Wild Child. They re-create The Doors concert experience. The lead singer, David Brock, does a great Jim Morrison the way he sounds, looks and acts. The guitarist, drummer and keyboard player are amazing musicians. This is the second time I had a chance to see them and this time I brought my camera and recorded a few songs. They were at Slim's in San Francisco on Saturday night - same place I saw Elliott in June of 2007 when he toured after his first CD!!

Enjoy!!

Elliottisastar,

I love The Doors' music and really loved it in the 60s. There were so many wonderful groups then.

Thanks for posting about Wild Child - I was very entertained.

My favorite Doors song of all time is "Light My Fire" so I listened to Wild Child's version of that on youtube.com I must say that if they slowed it down just a tad I think it would be the perfect reproduction of that fantastic song from all those years ago! I really enjoyed them!!!

So glad you enjoyed them! I also love "Light My Fire"! I videoed it too but my memory card was full and it stopped midway, so I didn't put it on You Tube. The 3 remaining members of The Doors actually endorsed Wild Child. Here's the link to their website where you can see what they said. This group is also using some of the actual equipment fromThe Doors!

I loved the groups of the 60's, especially The Beatles, The Beach Boys and all the Motown groups, but when The Doors came along, the music was different - kind of dark but very appealing! At the concert the other night, they became quite mesmerizing and we felt like we had been transported back in time and there was no liquor involved! LOL!! They'll be back in Northern California again in October and we're planning on seeing them again - they were that good!!

Yeah, I completely agree with you about The Doors being unique when they came on the scene! Wow, that's cool that Wild Child is using some of their original equipment!

When you were at the concert you said y'all felt like you were transported back in time and there was no liquor involved. Were there any drugs involved? ... Just kidding! I'm such a mess!

Well, I wish I were in California for more reasons than one - I might get the chance to see Wild Child in concert and I might be a whole lot cooler than we are here in this record drought in Texas!

Thanks so much for posting the website for Wild Child - I'm off to read it now!

LOL!! No liquor OR drugs!! Just some bottled water!!

Their sound is just amazing and the color of the lights and the smoke machine on the stage just gives you the feel of it really being The Doors. The lead singer stays in character the whole time on the stage - sullen, serious and sexy. When he was walking through the venue, he talked to us like a regular guy, but that persona when he hits the stage is mesmerizing. The voice - the poetry. The musicians were outstanding - guitar, drums, keyboard.

Get out of Texas for awhile - it will still be beautiful here in October!! Maybe you can find a good deal on airfare - spend a few days in San Francisco and then head to Redwood City for the show!!

Elliottisastar,

I went and read more about Wild Child using your link. It is uncanny how perfectly they capture the whole Doors experience!

I would love to head out to California to see them. My husband and I made a trip out there back in the 80s. We started in San Fran for almost a week riding trolleys, etc. then got a rent car and drove up to Sausalito. Next, we headed down the coast and hit Monterey where we ate seafood, Carmel where we went to the beach and then looked for the then Mayor's office (Clint Eastwood!). We ate there, too! We spent a night in beautiful Pacific Grove and continued down the beautiful coast to L. A. where I tried out for Wheel of Fortune (I didn't make it past the 1st written round of puzzles). Back up to San Fran for a few days driving a bit inland and spending one night at a motel in Salinas. Great trip!

There's just one catch now. I am one of the much older Elliott fans. I will turn 63 on August 23rd. That's not the problem! But, right now both my husband and I are helping to care for our elderly mothers. Mine is 90 and bedridden and has dementia. My mother-in-law has been moved to my mom's home. She is 87 and is dying from terminal lung cancer - hospice is involved and everything. Even though there are caregivers there 24/7 we can't go anywhere right now. Maybe someday soon we could make a trip back out to California and have it coincide with a performance by Wild Child!

I come to the E-Train a lot because of Elliott, of course, but also because of people like you who I might have something in common with. It is a place where there are many diverse views but reading through everything and participating in the conversations sometimes gets rid of my stress!

So, thanks again for posting this about Wild Child! I won't forget in the future and I hope to see and hear them someday!

Are you familiar with the story of Journey and Arnel Pineda taking over for their lead singer?

Hi Paulette -

Hey, hey, hey.......you're NOT a much older Elliott fan!! I'm not that far behind you! LOL!!! I think Elliott fans that have been on this Earth a little longer have a true appreciation for his talent after all the great singers we have experienced in our lifetimes. That's why we love him so much and want him to succeed - because he deserves it!

I'm so sorry about all that you're dealing with regarding your aging mom and mother in law. Getting older isn't bad when you're healthy, but illness definitely takes it's toll on the person and the family. I truly understand. As I was dealing with a family member illness, I found myself for the very first time going to a fan board - Elliott's folder in the American Idol Board - and it was a great release from the 'real world'. It's great that we have places like the E-train to come and share with each other!

You had an absolutely fabulous trip to California with your husband in the 80's!! And trying out for Wheel of Fortune - so cool!! You went to a lot of beautiful places! Pacific Grove is one of our favorites!! We go for long weekends there and really enjoy the beauty of the Monterey Bay. My guy also likes to play golf there on the course by the ocean and I love driving the golf cart! LOL!

I know you'll make it back to California again some day! No one ever comes here just once! LOL!!

I'll check out the Journey info on Wikipedia (LOVE that site!).

I'll PM you soon! ~~ Donna
