Title: If CKOLY is featured in a commercial
Description: What kind do you envision?
onlyforelliott - July 23, 2009 12:49 PM (GMT)
During the LA Chat last week Elliott mentioned that there was some licensing interest in Can't Keep Loving You. Assuming it would be featured in a commercial, I think it would be fun if we generated some possible scenarios. I'm limited in artistic creativity so I'll refrain from posting the first scenario and I'll let someone go first (assuming anybody is even interested in this topic).
I Love Elliott - July 23, 2009 12:53 PM (GMT)
When I listen to it now, I can hear it as the title track in a movie.
klo129 - July 23, 2009 01:53 PM (GMT)
A young man sits in his college dorm, in front of his computer, but staring at a picture of his girlfriend (Elliott sings: She's always on my mind; there's no room left for thinking). Shots of him walking in a haze to class; shot in class of him not paying attention. Back in his room, he packs an overnight bag; shot of him sitting on a train. "(And it feels like we belong together; can someone tell me where do I start") He steps off the train, sees his girlfriend and smiles, ("I got to say something before someone else comes through") and as they hug Elliott sings "I can’t keep on loving you, From a distance ".
AMTRAK: No distance is too great.
Edited to fix lyrics.

I can picture a commercial for an airline...this song would play as the guy is buying his ticket and waiting for his flight..of course the finale would be his distant love meeting him at the airport....aw well, I tried. :)

klo129...I like that...I can picture it.

idoletc, looks like we are on the same wavelength - transportation.
The song could also be used ironically in a "Scary Movie" type parody. The scene starts innocently with the guy admiring the girl "from a distance", then moves into "creepy stalker" territory. As Elliott repeats "from a distance", the guy is being led away in handcuffs for violating a restraining order. Okay, kinda sick, sorry.

In one of my very first posts I said that I could hear some of his songs on a major movie soundtrack as well. I think the idea for a commercial for a airline would be cool too.

I keep picturing a lovely animated motion picture with a beautiful Jaime-inspired heroine.
♥ Can't Keep On Loving You (From a Distance) ♥
♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫
How do I get close
When she looks like an angel
A moment of her time just seems impossible to me
It’s hard to find the words
To get to know this stranger
I’m scared of what she’ll say if what I say sounds incomplete
And it feels like
We belong together
Can someone tell me where do I start
Cuz
♥♥♥
I can’t keep on feeling the way I do
I can’t keep on hiding my heart from you
I gotta say something before someone else comes through
I can’t keep on loving you
From a distance
♥♥♥
She’s always on my mind
There’s no room left for thinking
I’m tired of waiting, slowly fading, it needs to happen now ♫right now♫
Cuz I’m running out of time
And I feel this ship is sinking
The doors are closing, I am frozen, I need her around
And it feels like
We belong together
Can someone tell me where do I start ♫where do I start♫
Cuz
♥♥♥
I can’t keep on feeling the way I do
And I can’t keep on hiding my heart from you
I gotta say something before someone else comes through
I can’t keep on loving you
From a distance
From a distance
♫Oooh♫ From a distance
From a distance
♥♥♥
♫I can’t ♫ I can’t keep on feeling the way I do
♫Oooh♫ I can’t keep on hiding my heart from you
I gotta say something before someone else comes through
Cuz I can’t keep on loving you
♫oh ♫ I can’t keep on loving you
From a distance
♥♥♥

klo129 ... you DO have an imagination!! Good one!
MOMster ... it would be a good song for a "Shrek" character, perhaps.

Great ideas so far. Now I'm going to try one and hope I get it stated right.
This man sees this beautiful woman in the elevator every day as they leave their office building for lunch. Of course the beginning of the song is playing. As they leave their building, she walks across the street to Progressive Auto Insurance. He paces back and forth a little and then goes into a flower shop and then across the street to the Progressive store. The quirky pitchwoman for Progessive is wrapping up her spiel to the beautiful lady and notices him pacing back and forth some distance away with something behind his back. The pitchwoman points to him and says "He's one of our return customers." The other lady turns around, recognizes him and smiles. He walks toward them, brings the flowers to the front and gives them to Flo, the quirky Progressive pitchwoman. :rotfl:

OMG - you guys are cracking me up!!

OMG you guys, those are perfect! lol, the Progressive Lady...
I picture it being used in a car commercial, for a man that is in "love" with a car he wishes he could have, I mean, you know men and their cars...lol;)
And it feels like
We belong together
Can someone tell me where do I start
Cuz
I can’t keep on feeling the way I do
I can’t keep on hiding my heart from you

Thanks. My other idea was similar to Yellin's with a car in various scenes.
klo129 - July 24, 2009 02:29 PM (GMT)
Great ideas onlyforelliott and yellin. I think the song would be perfect for an animated movie, MOMster. Reading the lyrics you posted, I thought of WALL-E when EVE first appears.

You guys are great, a video with a story"
Hopefully there is another producer for the music video.

It's so wonderful that E-train members have such collaborative, amazing and creative imaginations. Loved all the ideas. Keep 'em coming!! they are quite enjoyable!!! Thanks to all for sharing. :goodjob:

To be honest, the song would work awesome for the Twilight series, but maybe more with Jacob and Bella, but I made a video with Edward and Bella to show how it would work! Sorry about the quality:

I was thinking of a Coke commercial.
It starts off with a runner running the track in a race. He crosses the finish line..
Cuz I’m running out of time
And I feel this ship is sinking
The doors are closing, I am frozen, I need her around
And it feels like
We belong together
Can someone tell me where do I start ♫where do I start♫
sweat pouring down from his face... he stops, bends over to take his breath... still bent over he looks up, the camera zooms in to a beautiful girl drinking a coke in the stand far away.
Playing I can’t keep on loving you
From a distance
From a distance
♫Oooh♫ From a distance
From a distance
They then shoot to him walking out of the locker room, her standing right there to great him with a coke. They walk away hand in hand sipping their cokes. Or Pepsi's whatever :).
-I can hear the chorus... just not sure exactly where the rest of the song fits.

I love it!!! And I love your new avatar....lol;)

I've gifted all of Elliott's CD's to my local AC station - I assumed that they probably had already received them, but I just wanted to do a stop-by. They played WFY bunches. I was hoping they would add the holiday album last December, but they didn't, maybe this Christmas. They play a month's worth of only holiday music in December. Anyway, the station is in my neighborhood so I probably will stop by with my request. Will the single be for sale someplace with that great cover? I know they have the CD now, but I'd like to take them an actual hard copy.
onlyforelliott - July 28, 2009 06:12 PM (GMT)
This is fun. I hope we can keep it going. Yellin, you are really good with making the videos though I must admit that I'm a wimp and shows like Twilight creep me out. :)
Itslate, the runner one is a good one too. I thought of a running one over the weekend but it was for running shoes and not that good--I like yours much better.
I don't watch much TV, but I paid attention over the weekend more than I usually do and noticed that when they use a song in a movie or a commercial, it's usually only a snippet. So the other one I thought of is only for the first few lines of the song. Here it is:
It's lunchtime in the middle school cafeteria. This boy is with his friends but keeps looking longingly at the next table where this girl is laughing and cutting up with 3 or 4 of her girlfriends totally oblivious to him. He sighs as he begins to open a package of Twinkies (or peanut butter cups or whatever). He looks up to see her watching him. She smiles. He reaches over and hands her one. AWWWWW. :)

Here's some very general information about music licensing from an article in the New York Times about Sony ATV Music Publishing (no Elliott mention).
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/23/business...blishing&st=cse Finding the right tune can mean money in the bank, but the fees that publishing companies charge for music threaded into movies and TV shows vary widely. A local nightly news program may pay $1,000 to $4,000 for some horn-and-drum opening music and use it whenever it wants. The same goes for background, mood-setting music on a daytime soap opera. But using a song just once in a major motion picture can cost $25,000 to $1 million. Companies like J. Crew even pay fees for music played on their Web sites.
