Title: Debate Over Royalties/Etc.

Over the last couple of days, there have been several news stories speculating that radio stations are deliberately NOT playing the new U2/Bono album, because the band supports legislation that would require radio stations to pay muscians and performers, in addition to the song writers, when a song gets a spin on radio.

In turn, there have been news reports in the last day or so that have indicated that an anonymous artist is taking court action against the near radio boycott of a recent release, despite past sales and critical acclaim.

The p.r. war of words has begun on this. Mostly, by radio association reps who claim additional payment to musicians and singers for songs that get air-time will either put a lot of smaller radio stations out of business, and minority owned radio stations

As you read some of these articles, please keep in mind that the highest payment that a "small" station would be asked to pay on an annual basis is $5000 a year, or roughly $417 a month.

Anyway, here is a link to a story that is supposed to scare you on what this will do to radio if it passes:

Seems to me that these small radio stations should stop paying pricey association dues, that are used to pay lobbyists, and pay the artists. But, that's just me...

XM is addressing the increase in royalties by increasing subscriber fees. But, just a little:
