Title: The Ultimate Unofficial Fight for Love Survey
Description: Opinions Wanted
PoorMe - June 6, 2009 12:30 AM (GMT)
Hey, I'm doing a survey at the Y-Pod on what everybody thinks about the new album.
Click Here to take survey. It's just for fun. The more people who take the survey, the better, but please only take it one time. I'm leaving it up for a couple weeks, so you have plenty of time. Thanks!
itslate - June 6, 2009 12:47 AM (GMT)
Nicely done survey PM. I'm the one gushing.
Nickyey09 - June 6, 2009 01:00 AM (GMT)
I just took the survey. Good job PM. It's really nice. I found myself changing alot of my answers on the songs. One of my favorites and obsessed choices had me stuck because I am obsessed about my favorites and the ones I'm obsessed with are my favorites LOL. I guess that's what you get for making a hot, sexy, vocal masterclass album.
I Love Elliott - June 6, 2009 03:44 AM (GMT)
That was fun.
Can't wait to see the results.
Thanks Poor Me.
oregonAIfan - June 6, 2009 04:16 AM (GMT)
Great survey PM, I also am looking forward to seeing the results, you definitely planned this survey out very carefully.
Benito - June 6, 2009 10:04 PM (GMT)
Hmmm, I rated each song as an obsession. Then I commented that the FFL album is a CLASSIC--as in a CLASS BY ITSELF BAR NONE!

I took the survey too...glad I did..thanks for posting

I've never realized that there are so many Elliott's songs I've never heard.
I found out about them from the survey. Thanks.
I guess these are the bonuses. I bought my CDs from Amazon (there were no bonuses) and I also got one CD from Itunes (with 2 bonuses - I love "Doorway").
Must find the songs I still don't know.

I love "Doorway" - listening over and over....my new obseesion! Can ya tell?
PoorMe - June 18, 2009 02:31 PM (GMT)
Just a reminder to everyone that there's a few days left to take the survey. It will be available until the 21st.
I'm excited about writing up the results. One of my favorites ended up being the song (so far) with the lowest overall rating (I'm not talking about the bonus songs here)! I'm kind of shocked. And I would know better than to tell you which song is rated highest. We'll see if the numbers hold up over the next few days.
Thanks for participating!
jogr - June 18, 2009 11:28 PM (GMT)
Thanks to the survey I found out about my - favorite now - song which is: Good Outweigh The Bad.
I even did not rate this song because I did not know it when I did the survey.
But I 'm still wondering why is it so difficult to buy some of Elliott's songs.
Good Outweigh The Bad is not available for download anywhere!!!!!
WHY ??????
I saw questions from many people: where can I buy this song?
In fact when I posted a link on this Web site to this song on Youtube the song was taken down.
Again- WHY??
To make sure that nobody can hear it?
I wonder what your favorite song is, Poor me.
PoorMe - June 19, 2009 12:58 AM (GMT)
Good Outweigh the Bad is only available on the Target Bonus cd right now. I think it will eventually be offered at iTunes. That's what they did with the bonuses on the first cd.
If I had to pick one favorite right now I guess it would be Doorway, but I love so many on this album! It just brightens my mood whenever I listen, even if the subject matter is kind of sad in many of the songs.
itslate - June 19, 2009 05:30 AM (GMT)
After listening a million times :), I think some are starting to be more favored than others... still it's tough because I love the entire CD and bonus tracks.
I love Doorway also, it really grabs at ya... and I love the beginning lyrics of Don't Be Afraid (they're so cute), and I'm thinking my favorite at this time the lyrics and melody to When I'm Gone. I still don't know what radio would prefer as a single... IMO, I think they all fit somewhere as top hits.
PoorMe - June 23, 2009 12:11 AM (GMT)
Yo! Part I of the survey results has been posted here:

Thanks for being so hard working and diligent Poor Me, I sure enjoyed reading the comments and giggled a bit at your comments on people who rated FFL a 100 , even Elliott has room for improvement IMO, and I adore the album.
I also wondered as others did why some of the songs I love weren't included on the album, such as Doorway, When I'm Gone, Don't Change and Shelter weren't on there, again JMO.
midge - June 23, 2009 12:55 AM (GMT)
That was a very interesting read Poor Me. Looking forward to seeing the opinions on the various songs.
If Elliott does another chat here maybe we can ask how they determine what songs to put on the album - like many others I prefer some of the bonus songs over songs that made the album.
Lu - June 23, 2009 02:35 AM (GMT)
Poor Me - Great read - and really funny (go to the mirror and repeat after me - haha)!!! I agree with some others that there are some bonus tracks I wish were on the cd - Dont Change and When I'm Gone have smash written all over them imo.

And I still think The Bridge is Burning would have been a great first single.....and it didn't even make the album cut.

itslate - June 24, 2009 12:52 AM (GMT)
Great work PoorMe. Thanks for putting this together.
I would just like to place an opinion on why Fight For Love might have scored so low... I think it's because it's the song we hear the most. As big fans, maybe over and over again streaming, his myspace, official site, all over.... also the video. Combine this with the bit of a let down some are feeling from the lack of radio play. I believe if this survey were taken a month ago... it might have scored differently.
As far as my personal ratings, although I can't remember what I said exactly, how I rated things... I can't help but look at the CD as one song. I mean I make sure I play it from beginning to end... I just don't want to tire of any one song. Does anyone else do this? sure there are some that make me "groove" a little more than others... but I really enjoy the CD as a whole.
oregonAIfan - June 24, 2009 01:10 AM (GMT)
Very interesting results PM on the song preferences, and that FFL is at the very bottom. I don't recall how I rated all the songs, but FFL was definitely not at the top of it for me. And as itslate said, we could have been influenced by it being the 1st single out from the album.
Thanks again for all of your hard work PM, and I look forward to seeing how the bonus songs did, I know which one I rated the lowest on that one, and it sounds like one of them got the lowest rating of all, it will be interesting to see if it's the one I rated lowest too.
realitymom - June 24, 2009 04:33 AM (GMT)
Very cool survey results! I love how you broke down the results for each song. I have already stated that FFL is not one of my favorites on the CD & I will confess I tend to skip it as well, simply because I HAVE heard it for a while. I love this CD as a whole & while I loved the 1st CD, this is waaaaay better for me. Which makes me even more excited for future music from Elliott. It simply gets better & better & better!
I am still at a loss that When I'm Gone didn't make the CD. WIG, CH, LLB, KB, TTSA & HDIK are songs that I ALWAYS listen to multiple times a day & are also the songs my girls request. (They especiaaly love CH & WIG)
Thanks for doing this poorme, I can't imagine how much time & effort you have put into it!
Lu - June 24, 2009 05:22 AM (GMT)
Poor Me - Hurry up with the bonus tracks! LOL! Weren't there two bonus tracks on the Japan release? When I'm Gone and something else? Very interesting about Fight for Love on the survey but I think you hit on something when you mentioned it was one of the only ones to score higher with the under 40 group - probably a determining factor in why it was the first single. Elliott just got flat out gyped by radio. The problem with Elliott's first single has nothing to do with the song. Too bad radio doesn't give a flip what their listeners want to hear.
PoorMe - June 24, 2009 01:18 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I think there was a little bit listener fatigue involved in Fight for Love coming in last. People tend to skip it when listening to the album because they've heard it so many times already. It still got a decent score.
judyp - June 25, 2009 12:08 AM (GMT)
PM, your survey is so interesting.
I pretty much agree with the order of the song favorites. You Say is my favorite song on the cd, with This Step Alone and a couple of others coming in close. I was never a big fan of FFL so I guess that I'm an exception here. I listened to it a lot when it first came out hoping it would grow on me, but it never did.
I'm really counting on You Say being the next single.

I Love Elliott - June 25, 2009 03:12 AM (GMT)
SOOO interesting.........I can't believe "everyone" doesn't think exactly like me.
ha ha
"My" favorite wasn't # 1 and "my" least favorite wasn't last.
Thanks so much Poor Me for taking the time and effort to do this.
Just wondering how many people participated?
itslate - June 25, 2009 04:40 AM (GMT)
Thanks again Poor Me. Excellent survey.
I almost agree totally with the under 40 group. See I do think younger HA HA.
eta: Only thing, I would have sworn Don't Be Afraid would rank higher, especially w the younger. Too bad you couldn't break down the ages even further.
oregonAIfan - June 25, 2009 05:08 AM (GMT)
Thanks again for all of your hard work PM, my choices on the bonus songs were pretty much right on with your survey, and I had a feeling that Forever In You would be at or near the bottom, I just think that Elliott's voice is straining in parts of the song.
musicmovesme - June 25, 2009 05:58 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the hard work on your survey, PoorMe. Very interesting results.
Nickyey09 - June 25, 2009 02:04 PM (GMT)
Thanks PM for your work on this survey. All three parts were a very good read but I found Part III the most interesting. I love the album and I found it kind of hard making some choices on the survey because all of the songs are great. Having Forever In You fall in last place in all categories was the biggest surprise to me most of all ( I guess because I love the vibe of this song along with Let Love Be) I also thought that a lot of the bonus tracks would rank higher. Again thanks for your hard work.
ridingtheetrain - June 26, 2009 12:57 AM (GMT)
Thanks for all the hard work on the survey PM. I was surprised at some of the results. F4L is not one of my favorites and while I have suppported the song, I usually skip it on the CD. I love Know Better, but again was surprised it ranked so high. Interesting results overall.
jogr - June 30, 2009 12:14 AM (GMT)
PoorMe,
interesting results. Thanks. Even if it disappointed me because my favorite song - Good outweigh the Bad - does not seem to be as popular as I thought it would be.
:bawl:
I wonder if Elliott will read about the survey and make conclusions based on it.
Taratova - June 30, 2009 02:02 AM (GMT)
I am wondering if Elliott's song FFL was # 1, if everyone then voted it higher on the list.. including me
MOMster - June 30, 2009 02:40 AM (GMT)
Nice work on the survey, PoorMe! Lots of great analysis and information. I had fun reading it. Just wondering - how many respondents are the results based on?
PoorMe - June 30, 2009 07:45 PM (GMT)
You're welcome, everybody!
Some asked how many people took the survey. I don't have a total number, because at first I was deleting the survey if a person didn't fill out the song rating part. Then I thought I should at least keep all the surveys so I could get a bigger number of responses for the first few questions. I also accidentally deleted some surveys before I could tally up the final results (oops). I decided to break down the results into over 40 and under 40 because I had so many more respondents who fit in the over 40 group that I felt the over 40's were probably dominating the song ratings. At least I learned alot about creating a survey. The total number of people who rated the songs was about 140, but I probably had at least 200 respondents.
I did manage to get some younger respondents as I publicized the survey on a few more blogs (Rickey and Idol Chatter), but my numbers were really too small to make a further breakdown meaningful. I think I had only 5 respondents under the age of 16, so I wouldn't think that is enough of a sampling to say that it would represent what the average teen thinks of the album or particular songs.
MOMster - June 30, 2009 08:12 PM (GMT)
really good job on this. thank you!
man, I love this album
Songmonger - June 30, 2009 10:48 PM (GMT)
I wish I'd seen this when the survey was still up, but I loved reading the results, thanks PoorMe!
Right away, "Know Better" grabbed me and has still not let go as my 'obsession' song, and I'm 40 (right on the edge, baby!) That to me is the 'OMG" song I saw someone mention in the survey comments. I wish that Elliott would release that one next, or at least third, if plans are to open up "You Say" to US single release.
Both are destined to be hits.
I just purchased the CD through ITunes just to get the bonus songs (already have a copy of the album through Amazon, so don't tell my husband! :hide: ) And I completely agree with the results on 'Doorway". I think that should have been included on the album in place of maybe "Someday" (even though it is his tribute song to Claudette, I know, but it doesn't stand up to the others on the disc) or even 'How Do I Know".
I'd love to see a similar survey from fans outside the U.S. to see how similar or dissimilar our American tastes in music compares to international tastes.
