http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-mellenc...t_b_177836.htmlAnd I like this very Elliott-y riposte:
QUOTE Sounds like another one of those 'poor me' pleas. We have a new endangered species on the planet and it is the major records labels.
I have worked in sales and marketing in very high technology for over 20 years. It will keep evolving faster than anyone can imagine & the majors need to adept to it. Wishing for vinyl to return to increase sales will never become mainstream. Record labels, which some are beginning to do, need high tech / social media types on their payroll so they can understand what is going on.
I also find this article only addresses artist creativity & prosperity, not the core reason so many indie artist are making a living in music today. "Today's music is all about YOUR FANS", it's not about you, your music, your creativity or pleasing your ego any more! It's about building a fan base by connecting with your fans and creating moments for them on each song you sing & each show you book.
The fact the music business is better than ever is because more people can make a living on their own without some record executive deciding what is best for them. What's best for today's artist is whatever your fans want. In sales we call this 'customer service'. Indie artist have finally found a way to acquire their own piece of the music pie....which, allows them to do what they love to do.
