Title: TOP 10 POLL
Description: does the E-Train like this group?
ElliottCat101 - March 20, 2009 07:06 PM (GMT)
If the show ended today, would you be interested in hearing more from anyone in this years group? Just curious :)

I like a bunch of them, but I think Lil rounds and Matt, if any I'd check their music. That's as of now. Lots of surprises last week.
georgiafan1 - March 21, 2009 09:35 AM (GMT)
As of now, I'm not invested in any of the Season 8 contestants. I might buy Kris' CD so I voted for him. Only.
I like Megan but I don't enjoy female singers for long periods of time so I would not attend her concert nor buy her CD. I don't think that I've ever listened to an entire CD by a female singer.

Now that Alexis is out which I thought wouldn't happen in a long time, I don't care who else gets to the top. I'm interested in seeing Adam's performance every week though.
chloewannabee - March 23, 2009 01:30 AM (GMT)
i would probably maybe listen to Kris again, but this year is worse than season 6, and that to me was the worst ever
sherwood - March 24, 2009 06:53 PM (GMT)
I don't know whether this season is worse than season six, but it's pretty amazing that AI couldn't come up with better talent with the new rules in place.
Lene - March 26, 2009 07:54 PM (GMT)
I thought the new rules are the reason why this season sucks. There were so many people who probably would have had a chance had they had another shot to perform.
However, I voted for Anoop, Megan, Matt and Kris. If Megan got a record label behind her in full force, she could make a good CD. I'd probably never see her live though. But I can see why the judges and TPTB seemed so hellbent on pushing her at us. On paper she seems like she should be a frontrunner.
chloewannabee - March 27, 2009 03:11 PM (GMT)
I could hear Megan singing with groups like the Squirrel Nut Zippers, she'd be good at that. But they're not very American Idolish.other than that,....musical comedy maybe

I don't know. Seems to me that the new rules favor the judges' "first impressions," mainly.
And I think that their first impressions virtually always revolve around who's got the right "image," the "right" genre, etc., to be "commercial" under current conditions and to best fit whatever niche previous Idol winners have left unfilled and to make some "tv moments" of some sort (see: Gokey, Danny, and McIntyre, Scott).
(Paula is the only one that I've seen actually regularly champion *talent* in the early going over some checklist of commercial viability. In Season One, for example, she was pushing Kelly C, while Simon just didn't see it because her "look" and persona didn't fit the image he was thinking the industry would pay for at the moment. It was episodes and episodes before he finally came around to supporting Kelly. Until she'd sung numerous times, he was so blinded by his preconceptions that he didn't even realize that her voice was something very special... Kelly! Their biggest success of *all*, so far ... )
By and large, they've seemed to me to pick their early favorites on this basis-every year. And only as the competition goes on -- such as in those now-ditched semifinal rounds of winnowing from 24 to 12 -- do people with the best *talent* and the greater substance and stamina rise through the ranks and take the judges' attention.
Seems to me that this year's system is pretty nearly rigged to dump much of the best talent early on in favor of people who fit the judges' preconceived checklists of the hypothetical star-of-the-moment that record companies are looking for. And I think that's pretty well happened. Witness the dumping of Langseth, Ricky B, and Von in favor of Megan, who fits the checklist. But geesh. I do like the tone of Megan's voice. But to me she probably needs years and years of studying singing and practicing before she could actually use that voice to its potential, based on what I see as her near inability at present to actually phrase and present a song well.

Not everyone. I do like Matt even though I don't think he'll win, but if he has an album, I'll buy it. I also like Danny. Adam is too professional for the competition, but whatever.
familyguy - April 5, 2009 02:55 AM (GMT)
I would go see Adam in concert and would buy Allison's CD.

According to the rules, the only thing you can't have is management already representing you. Otherwise, anyone with any level of past musical experience can try out for the show.

As for Adam being too professional -- well, he's apparently pretty well known in the LA and Broadway-tour theater world, but in the "just singer" realm, he seems to me to count as undiscovered. Maybe I think that because I'm an Adam fan, of course!
On the other hand, that woman I didn't like -- the actress who's been on some network shows, can't remember her name, think she auditioned in New York -- Well, I had no problem with her being on the show, either. Just because you have professional show-business experience somewhere doesn't mean you aren't an undiscovered unknown in the music end of the business, to me. So maybe it's not just my pro-Adam bias coming out here.
I didn't have a problem with Carly, either, last year, although did have a problem with their not being honest about her story. I don't see why they just can't tell the truth about people. If they did, I think the audience might get a much clearer picture of what all these kids are up against as they try to make it in music these days.
gztdove - April 9, 2009 08:47 AM (GMT)
I would buy the CD of Danny Gokey because I really like his voice and that kind of heartfelt feelings.
Matt would also be my choice.
I first noticed him because Simon said that Matt reminded him of Elliott, but not for me. I thought he was quite different from Elliott because up till now, I haven't been really touched by his performances which occasionally happened to me when I watched Elliott performming. :elliottelliott:
I can still recall when Elliott met Steve Wonder on the Show, and it was really emotional. Elliott was like a little child meeting his idol of all time :toocute:

I seem to be in the minority, but I like this season. I am curious to see what Adam, Kris, and Matt release as music. I get a kick from Adam - he is fun to watch - he is a bit arrogant in his singing but humble in his respect of the other contestants. I like that. And I really like how Adam bloomed and Matt was liked for just being Matt. If the last 2 I mentioned, get some good mentoring, I think they can do very well. Adam will do well somehow whether its rock, rock opera, or broadway.
AND OFF TOPIC - I've been stopping by chat and no one is there. I miss the conversations!

Oh no, I am loving this season. Possibly the best season ever, or maybe second best after season 5... hard to know! I do know there is no one I hate as much as I hated Kat that season! :P

LOVE to see Adam and Danny - those were my faves this year. Kris might be good as well.
ElliottCat101 - June 6, 2009 08:57 PM (GMT)
Thought this was somewhat interesting. It was posted June 1st on the IdolChatter part of USAToday.com. It shows how much each Idol sold during the week right after the finale..

1. Kris Allen, naturally, had the most with 488,000, led by No Boundaries' 134,000. 2. Adam Lambert was second with 371,000, which included the 10,000 that came from "Is Anybody Listening?" from that Ten Commandments musical (My own addition: I didn't even know you could get an Adam song on iTunes from before Idol!) 3. Danny Gokey (12 songs, 57,000 downloads) 4. Allison Iraheta (9 songs, 35,000 downloads) 5. Matt Giraud (20 songs, 12,000 downloads) (me own addition: some from his pre-idol albums, which are not good IMO) 6. Anoop Desai (9 songs, 5,000 downloads) 7. Megan Joy (6 songs, 4,000 downloads) 8. Alexis Grace (3 songs, 2,000 downloads) 9. Scott MacIntyre (6 songs, 1,000 downloads) 10. Lil Rounds (8 songs, 1,000 downloads) 11-13. Michael Sarver, Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez all had less than a thousand cumulative downloads, with Jorge having the lowest total.
Add in the 22,000 for Adam and Allison's Slow Ride duet and the 11,000 for Kris and Danny's Renegade, and this season's Idols had 1.09 million downloads last week. Not too shabby. |
Bet Matt would've had a number closer to Allison's if he had been able to have a duet like she had.
