Incredible new interview/performance show on Sundance channel. Elvis Costello opens the show by covering a song by the evening's featured guest. Elvis is not only an amazing performer but he's also a huge music appreciator and historian of musical styles all across the map. Because of that depth of knowledge, he is able to go places in the interviews that are rarely, if ever, tread.
And the hour long show features music! What a shock! They're not about selling the latest hot artist. Instead, it's about celebrating the music, giving the music the spotlight. They play a bunch of songs each show - some are just the guest, some with their bands, and usually elvis joins in for a couple of songs.
This show is simply spectacular. For me, it's like finding an oasis in the desert. I cannot tell you how grateful I am that this show is on the air and I highly recommend it to all music lovers. So far, the guests have been Elton John (who helped germinate this whole concept and is one of the producers), Lou Reed and Julian Schnabel, Bill Clinton and James Taylor. Upcoming episodes are with Tony Bennett, the Police, Rufus Wainwright, Kris Kristofferson, Rosanne Cash, Norah Jones and John Mellencamp.
