Title: Project Runway
Description: May Contain SPOILER Info
Sk8888 - July 18, 2008 12:56 AM (GMT)
The season premiere was on last night and I never get tired of this show!
There are a lot more women this season.
Last night's challenge was to make something from items purchased at a supermarket.
Honey, you should see what you can do with a plastic cup!
Tim called a bunch of them slackers for buying plastic table cloths. I quite agree. The winner of the challenge was SO creative. She took vaacum cleaner bags, dyed them and made them into a skirt, and then created a top with fasteners she ripped out of tiny three ring binders.
....and it was wearable!
Linda4Elliott - July 18, 2008 01:10 AM (GMT)
oooh, thanks for the heads up, Sk8888! I didn't realize another season had started. I'll be sure to watch next week. I LOVE the show.
wee_moggie - July 18, 2008 09:13 PM (GMT)
I saw it last night, and I really think that they made the right choice with Kelly winning--it was SO creative! Yeah, a lot of people copped out with doing tablecloths and thinking that they were the only one who thought of it! :rotfl:
This bunch seems to be especially arrogant. Especially Blane, the skin-cancer-waiting-to-happen one. He thought he was going to "dominate" that challenge, and his "dress" (if you could call it that) was so hideous!
And the outfits these people wear! You know that woman who wears all the studded leather? Hubby went into the kitchen for a moment and I yelled to him, "Get in here and look! She's wearing leather BOY SHORTS!" :rotfl:
Love this show!
Sk8888 - July 18, 2008 09:31 PM (GMT)
Ugh, I know, Blane is the young contestant with the 'tude of last season's winner Christian, without the talent to back it up!!
I hope he gets bounced early.
No opinions on anyone else just yet, EXCEPT I just had a feeling that the guy who got booted first would receive that fate when during his intro he said he already ran a very successful business, but was looking for a vehicle for more people to see his fashion.
Uhm, the Psycho raincoat outfit will probably set back sales at his stores for months!
Sk8888 - July 23, 2008 11:42 PM (GMT)
It's on tonight! But never fear, BRAVO runs an interminable amount of repeats.
I think we'll get a stronger sense of who's cutting edge and who's hanging on by the skin of their teeth tonight.
Linda4Elliott - July 23, 2008 11:57 PM (GMT)
what time does it come on and is this just the second episode? I hope I haven't missed too much.

It comes on at 10 p.m. where I live.
Very often BRAVO will run the previous week's episode before the new one, or right after. And, this is only the second episode. You haven't missed too much.
Linda4Elliott - July 24, 2008 12:57 AM (GMT)
great! Thanks sk8888! I am going to watch :)
Sk8888 - July 24, 2008 05:40 PM (GMT)
Ugh! The models in this year's PR set back the profession thirty years last night.
How can you be a model and have no fashion sense, intuition on color combos, or understanding about good vs. not so good material to use when making a garment?
Utterly baffling choices of fabric and color were purchased at Mood.
I'll be watching a rerun tonight because for some reason BRAVO thought we would want to see Shear Genius instead of Project Runway, so PR came on at 11 p.m. on the West Coast..
Efan2 - July 25, 2008 03:50 PM (GMT)
You're not kidding. The models really didn't get their designers much to work with but I was amazed at how well many of them did in spite of that. A few were just awful though. I think the one they sent home deserved it.

I agree, the right person got sent home.
I mean, you get stuck with the equivalent of shiny satin, and then you put countless darts, pockets and gawd knows what else? The outfit was a mess.
At first I thought if that were me I would be really bitter getting kicked off for material my model purchased. But then again, they're supposed to be able to make something out of nothing, and that just didn't happen.
The idea of using "green" fabrics was nice too.
wee_moggie - July 25, 2008 11:50 PM (GMT)
Personally, I hated that dress that won. All those strips and that tulle skirt, ugh. They loved it. Well, to each his own!
One of the contestants asked her model to remember to get buttons and fasteners and closures. I had no idea that the contestants had to get those kinds of things at the store. More kudos to them--I think that would take so much talent to figure out beforehand what kinds of buttons and fasteners you were going to use for your design.
Sk8888 - July 31, 2008 08:07 PM (GMT)
The outfit of last night's loser looked so similar to the outfit that the overly tanned contestant Blayne made, and yet he was safe -- not even in the bottom three.
I hope that the PR judges and producers are not compromising their integrity just for ratings. To be honest, I can't wait until Blayne is gone.
Linda4Elliott - July 31, 2008 08:42 PM (GMT)
:headsmack: I can't believe I forgot to watch last night. It's competing with SYTYCD, but I totaly intended on watching the re-run at 11pm. Forgot.

Linda, according to my DVR guide, the show will repeat tonight at 8PM.

I'm trying to remember what Blayne's outfit looked like. Must not have impressed me. I didn't think the loser's dress was all that awful, just not too exciting, I guess. My personal favorite was the dark blue, 2 piece, with the short skirt with layering (?) in the back. I think the designer was Leanne. I believe Heidi said she would wear the dress.
Right now I think Blayne and Suede are my least favorties.

I loved that outfit too. Leanne really should have won last night. And considering the awful outfit she made last week, she has really learned to be more disciplined in her design.
Suede seems to have some talent, unlike Blayne, but his constant references to himself in the third person must be so annoying to the group.
I also think Daniel, the guy who is always dressed in a suit and tie is talented and should be making the top three more often.
Linda4Elliott - August 1, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
thanks Efan2. I was able to catch the episode because of your headsup! Liked the winner, loved the two piece skirt, blouse. I don't know anyone's names yet.
Efan2 - August 1, 2008 01:51 AM (GMT)
Glad you were able to see it LFE. This is the first year I've watched the show and I'm really getting a kick out of it. I had to go to the Project Runway website to put names with faces. :)

All right!! It will be fun to hear your thoughts as a new viewer of the show.
And never fear, there are constant repeats of the show. I think after the other reality show, "Shear Genuis," is over that BRAVO will actually run the previous week's PR episode right before the newest episode. It's sort of fun to watch them back to back sometimes.
Efan2 - August 3, 2008 01:05 AM (GMT)
I'm getting hooked on Shear Genius too, SK8888. I've set the good old DVR to record both shows in case I forget or can't watch for some reason. My hairdresser turned me on to Shear Genius (surprise, surprise).

^^
About SG.....I was moved by the challenge where the contestants styled new wigs for the women with propecia.
Very touching that the two contestants who were the most emotional ended up being in the top two to win. Just had to mention that.
Efan2 - August 7, 2008 03:25 AM (GMT)
Tonight's episode designing outfits for the USA Olympians was very interesting. Having Apolo Ohno as guest judge worked out quite well. He had some good input. For the most part, I liked the outfits. I definitely agreed with the judges this time on the bottom 3. I wasn't surprised that Jennifer was the loser. Her "matronly" outfit last week and uninspired one this week did her in, I think. I really hated Jerell's outfit though. I just didn't get it at all. The hat and the whole outfit would look silly on the athletes.
My top 3 favorites were Joe, Korto, and Blayne. These made the best use of red, white, and blue fabric and were the most athletic and current looking IMO.
Sk8888 - August 7, 2008 05:07 PM (GMT)
^^
The term dowdy also comes to mind when referring to the loser's outfit, and two weeks in a row! And what is surreal about matronly and dowdy? I'm amazed she even got chosen for the show.
Sweet Apollo Ohno as a guest judge. Darn, he is as cute as ever, and he was so well-dressed. He had a clear idea of what the athletes would like, and what would also represent the US.
I liked who got chosen for the top three. I think I would have chosen Joe as the winner. The red/blue zipper was very clever and he was the only one to put USA on the outfit somewhere. But I liked all three that were tops.
I worry that some of these designers cannot think outside of their comfort zone. At some point, Stella and her leather outfits are going to do her in.

:rotfl:
Stella is an interesting character to me, even though she is a one trick pony.
It's Blayne and his tanning obsession that drives me crazy. But, I was howling when Tim told him his outfit was looking Sgt. Pepperish, and Blayne was clueless. Tim saying "Oh gawd, youth," was right on the mark. Then, Blayne said something along the lines of old people liking the Beatles......and then says, "Sorry Ringo."
Was Apollo Ohno cute or what? Has he ever been in People's Sexiest Man issue?
Efan2 - August 7, 2008 10:14 PM (GMT)
Ditto on Apollo. If he wasn't in People, he should have been. Were you watching "Dancing With the Stars" when he was on the show? Unfortunately I only watched the end of that season. He was awesome.

Gulp, yes, I saw him on DWTS.
I love a man who knows how to dance.

Yeah, I was laughing also when Blayne wasn't familiar with Sgt. Pepper. I can't believe he tans every other day! What is up with that!
I loved the outfit of the winner of the challenge (I can't remember her name or how to spell it). Loved the wide-leg pants and the vest.
I see we are Shear Genius watchers also! Their challenges were pretty silly this week, with the hairdos with food products and then the dog challenge. It's not as if they would ever be in those situations in their real lives. However, it was fun to watch! I can't believe Nicole put the squid in her client's hair! Yuck!
Sk8888 - August 11, 2008 12:10 AM (GMT)
Yeah, the SG challenge was very weird. I haven't seen all of the SG episodes, but I think they should do a challenge where they have women "of a certain age," who are graying and maybe could use an update on their hairstyle. Now, this doesn't apply to me AT ALL, :rotfl:, but it would be more enjoyable to watch.

SG has me hooked as well. Wee, I agree about the squid.....that was definitely a weird challenge. I also like your idea Sk8888 of a challenge using women of a certain age. I can't claim that it wouldn't apply to me because my avatar says it all. LOL.

I caught both PR and SG on Tivo.
I've been totally immersed in the Olympics, but I will say this, the right person got sent home on SG.
On the other hand, I'm starting to worry about PR. They sent home someone who has won a challenge, when it seemed like there were other clear choices, e.g. Blayne.
If they are keeping him on for the sake of ratings, I will start to take the results with a grain of salt.

Got to agree with you on this one. I was surprised that Kelli was out seeing that she had done well previously and, while I didn't love that outfit, I thought Blayne and Leanne's was much worse. I also didn't care for the pairing of designers. I would rather have seen each design their own.
It definitely makes one wonder if the judging is fair or if decisions are made to make the show more interesting or controversial.
Sk8888 - August 18, 2008 07:26 PM (GMT)
^^
I remember reading an article about Top Chef and one of the comments made was that they have to send the person home who, in their opinion, has the worst dish, or they would have no integrity. They mentioned a couple of very popular contestants who the judges chose to leave and the producers were upset becaause they were "popular" with viewers.
I wish I had a link to that story now. But, it seems to imply that other reality shows will find a way to keep some contestants if they are good for ratings.
In times past, a contestant on PR who had already won a challenge would have been given the benefit of the doubt for one bad outing.
Blayne is sort of like Sanjaya, you can't believe he's still in the hunt, but you slow down to look like a rubber necker, to see what awful outfit he'll come up with next.
Sk8888 - August 18, 2008 07:51 PM (GMT)
^^
The PR Blogs are in overdrive about this. Here's a sampling of a typical post:
If last night's episode is any indication as to the direction of the show, then I hope this is the last season so that Project Runway can end on somewhat of a high note. As a fan since the first show, this season seems to focus on catty behavior and when Kelli was judged off over Daniel and Blayne, it was clear to me that this is the beginning of the end for the show. Blayne, with all of his silliness and tanning made shorts for a challenge that was from the boardroom and after. While Kelli's outfit was not the best choice, it was far more appropriate than Blayne's. But...Blayne is more dramatic and the show has decided to prostitue itself for ratings.
Efan2 - August 18, 2008 08:45 PM (GMT)
I had not read the comments on the website. Very interesting. Seems we are all pretty much in agreement. Thanks for posting.

I'm blanking on the movie where Marlon Brando said this.
Btw, it was the right decision.

Stella is gone? I missed it last night.

Yep, Stella is gone. She was in the bottom two last week and barely survived. She just couldn't get out of her own way.

I liked her personality but she did need to branch out...
