Title: Jason Castro - Post Idol News

Linda4Elliott - June 2, 2008 09:36 PM (GMT)
I'm going to follow Chatty's lead and start a separate Jason Castro thread. I'll start it with the lyrics from the original song he sang at his homecoming celebration in Rockwall, Texas on May 29.

Lyrics from Jason's original song which may be called One and Only or Tonight. I've seen both titles.

http://rockwalllovesjason.com/video4.html

Well I know that it's been sometime
and I'm a little anxious tonight
and you are too,
I see it in your eyes.

CHORUS:
Oh but I, I wanna move your hair and see your face
watch my eyes light up from the pillowcase.
And I'll sing you a song,
so that you know that you're my only, only one.
Yes, you’re my only one.
Only one.

Well I know that we haven’t been so nice,
I can see that you’re a little angry and I am too.
But when all is said and done I love you.

CHORUS:
And I wanna move your hair and see your face
watch my eyes light up from your pillowcase.
And I'll sing you a song,
so that you know that you're my only, only one.
Yes, you’re my only one.

And we’re not gonna sleep tonight.
Not tonight.
Not tonight.
Not tonight.

CHORUS:
Cuz I wanna move your hair and see your face
watch my eyes light up from your pillowcase.
And I'll sing you a song,
so that you know that you're my only, only one.
Yes, you’re my only one.
And we’re not gonna sleep tonight.

Thanks for setting up this thread, Linda. Thanks also for the lyrics to Jason's song. Pretty hot. He wrote it last year.

Jason singing about pillowcases and no sleeping makes me glad that he's 21 so that I can enjoy the song. LOL.

I have liked all of his original songs that I've heard so far. Now that he has more experience writing and singing, he will probably make a great CD. Can't wait to buy it.

yw, georgiafan1!

We certainly need a couple of pics to start things out properly, don't we?? ;)

My favorite because he looks so happy!

Aww...a Jason Castro thread! Thanks, Linda! :D

Hmm...They're not going to sleep tonight? So what would you be doing instead, Jason? :rotfl:

Well, the pastor said something else that I forgot in my recap yesterday. Something like "Fame isn't real."

He's right. It's not. AI isn't real, either, and it isn't the immensely important thing it has made itself out to be. Simon criticized Jason brutally for not being desperate to win this all-mighty important thing that affects his whole life and happiness forever... but it was a no-brainer for me. If we could tell, from here, and objective observers from TWoP were able to tell that "the bus was coming for Jason" then certainly Jason knew. He knew the F2 were David and David. He knew ALW didn't like him. He was the one Paula judged harshly for a song not sung.

What's the motivation to want to win, win, win a contest that you know TPTB are hell-bent on sabotaging for you? Did he lack the killer instinct? What is the killer instinct good for? Does it produce better music? Or does it just make for more exciting TV in a place where singing songs is compared to a boxing match? But... AI... you don't really care for music, do ya?

What, after all, is the difference between fourth place and third? Second place was reserved for Archie, because that position also gets a recording contract and 19E did not want to sign Jason. (Now, that shows how out of touch with contemporary music they are, but that's another issue.) All he could hope for was third. By losing third, he lost.... the homecoming visit.

Nope. Just had it. Exactly the same celebration, all the same preparations. Just happened three weeks later and the AI film crews didn't film it. Other than that, I think his professional prospects are absolutely identical to what they would have been before.

And what happens after this immensely important show, so critical to their future success and happiness that they must strive to win, win, win, at all costs even if their backs are to the wall and Nigel's scripted lines damn them before they even sing? Well, we've had 80 AI contestants, and 7 winners. Of the winners, two have already lost their recording contracts, and the failure rate for runner-ups is even higher. Except for the highly touted Mr. Daughtry, the luckiest of the rest are already doing what I hope Jason will do - they make their livings touring and playing live music while selling copies of an album they released with a small label or an indie label.

The less lucky ones have gone back to their day jobs. Jason Castro is one of the most musically relevant contestants the show has ever had; I pray he will not have to do that, but it's a selfish prayer. I don't want to lose the opportunity to hear him sing. Jason... will be a winner in life no matter what happens with the whole music thing. I have come to understand that as long as he has the love of his family and the opportunity to serve the Lord, Jason will be perfectly happy. The complete, utter degree to which his journey is Christ-based really, really hit home during his pastor's talk and dedication. AI is not real, and it's not really that important. It's a glorified kareoke contest that has yet to produce a single star of guaranteed longevity. (Although my money is on Underwood for that.) Fame is not real, and it doesn't last. Jason's faith is real, the love and support of his family is real (his mom looked like she was going to burst with pride). Simon Cowell, who goes around spouting that Jason is going to regret his final four performance in a year's time, can't begin to understand that. But then, Cowell MUST sell the idea that winning this thing is the difference between happiness and despair.

One of the reasons why they may be angry at Jason is that he not only knew that Simon's idea isn't true, but that he allowed other people to see that he knew it wasn't true. That's the most subversive thing any AI contestant has ever done. Once it really clicked in my head that Jason leads a Christ-driven life, and that all he really cares about in terms of AI is the actual music itself, then his attitude in the F4 week, and the cheerfulness with which he made his exit, made much more sense to me.

Most church-goers don't really lead a Christ-driven life. It's very rare to see the effect on somebody who genuinely does. I do not normally ruminate about religion to such length on entertainment message boards, but I am not at all sure that Jason Castro can be understood without recognizing this basic principle. It's the difference between the dishonest, libelous sterotype of a lazy, drug-addled stoner who could not be bothered to practice, and a serene child of God who, while inexperienced and outmatched, did his best and was just Travelin' Thru.

Fame is not real, and losing AI is not the end of the world. Jason is not about the boxing match. He's about the music. And whether he has a Daughtry career and goes platinum, so WE can thumb our noses at Cowell, or he has a quiet little George Huff career where he goes touring around singing for his supper, (and WE get to listen, happily, while Cowell smirks and says "See, I told you so,") Jason is going to be happy. He seems to have a distinct talent for that.

After the finale, I searched itunes to find Jason's encore performance of Hallelujah, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I read that other people had trouble finding some of the songs from other contestants, as well. I also had searched for Carly and Michael's duet of The Letter.

I am so excited to say that I have now completed my Jason Castro collection, since I found everything he has to offer available at this link. I would not post it, except that these songs are now no longer available for sale on itunes.

(Maybe I am slow and everyone else has already found this....)

Thanks Linda for that link, I may have missed one or two, and I must have a complete Jason CD :).

This is pretty cool for that link... I have to share... it's called download them all... free add on to fire fox, if you use firefox. Open this link in firefox and click on add to firefox.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/201

It's harmless I use it to download my sons pictures posted on his boyscout site, where you have to click on every picture. I just found I can use it to download all of Jason's songs at once.

When it's installed, you will find it listed under tools/download them all. Open the web page in question, Click on and the rest is easy to figure out from there.

It's great the way Jason is reaching out to his fans. Love him.

I love that he is commenting back on the blog. Someone asked about the song, "So Fast" and he explained the story behind it. I had read about it but was not sure if what I had read was true. I guess it was. Anyway, here is his answer:

QUOTE
So fast was written the night before my birthday, I had found out that morning that a friend that I was close to in high school had committed suicide. that song was written in reflection of the situation and I was just examining the thoughts that one faces in a time like that. it all came out in one night. thats the story behind that song. straight from the heart and soul.

I love that song. Jason is a good writer.

Linda4Elliott - June 4, 2008 06:09 PM (GMT)
georgiafan, that song is just beautiful! I saw he posted about it on his blog, and was wondering where I could hear it. I somehow missed that it was on Castrocopia radio :headsmack: I am so very impressed with his songwriting ability. He really bears his soul lyrically and in the delivery, also.

Itslate, if I had used the program you posted upthread, I wouldn't have missed So Fast .......silly me......

Jason's Performance Today

Mama Castro answered the question "Where did Jason sing today?" in a thread at the DaydreamingBoy Forum

His aunt invited him to visit some kids in the burn unit of the Hospital she works at, so he did. We got to visit some very special kids and they lit up when they heard Somewhere over the rainbow. He even let one of them help him tune his Ukelele. Very precious. I'd post pictures, but he didn't want to make a big "look at me" deal about it. He just wanted it to be about the kids, so...sorry! But trust me...it was precious!
